Health claims about microgreens

Let’s take a look at some of the bold claims circulating online. They seem like nature’s miracle remedy — but is it all true?

Popular claims include:

What does science say?

Microgreens are a relatively new phenomenon globally, so there’s still a lack of long-term scientific evidence. At this point, no clinical studies have confirmed direct health benefits of microgreens in humans.

However, certain varieties do show higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals compared to their mature counterparts. They also contain a wide range of bioactive compounds, which may support overall health and potentially provide medicinal effects.

The few existing studies are overall positive, but also emphasize the need for further research.

Microgreens for a healthier lifestyle

In modern societies, our diets are often lacking. Too few fruits and vegetables, too much processed foods.

Typical modern diet:

  • Too much sugar

  • Too many empty calories

  • Too many processed meats

  • Not enough water

  • Not enough fruits and vegetables

This pattern contributes to the development of chronic illnesses.

How microgreens help:

  • Great source of vitamins and minerals (more than mature vegetables in some cases)

  • Rich in a wide array of bioactive compounds that support the body and may help prevent chronic disease.

  • Easy to use — no cutting or cooking needed, making them more convenient and encourage regular consumption.

  • Very low in calories yet filling

  • Mostly free of chemicals or pesticides

So… are microgreens that healthy?

We can’t call them a miracle cure (yet). But given our current eating habits, they’re a great nutritional boost, and possibly a shortcut to a healthier body.
